About the GST Calculator

GST (Goods and Services Tax), known as VAT in many countries, is a consumption tax added to the price of most goods and services. Businesses need to add it to invoices, and buyers often need to work backwards from a final price to find the tax portion.

This calculator does both directions. To add GST, enter the net price and the rate, and it returns the tax amount and the gross (tax-inclusive) total. To remove GST, enter the gross price and rate, and it works out the original net price and the tax that was included. This is handy for invoicing, expense claims, and pricing decisions.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add GST to a price?โŒ„

Multiply the net price by the GST rate to get the tax, then add it back. For example, at 18% GST a net price of 100 becomes 100 + 18 = 118. The calculator does this instantly when you choose 'Add GST'.

How do I remove GST from a gross amount?โŒ„

Divide the gross price by (1 + rate). At 18%, a gross price of 118 รท 1.18 = 100 net, with 18 being the GST. Choose 'Remove GST' and the tool handles it for you.

Is GST the same as VAT?โŒ„

They work the same way as consumption taxes added at each stage of supply. The name and rates differ by country, but this calculator works for any percentage rate you enter.
